'KelpWatch' receives funding from 'Coast and Clean Seas Program'. Coasts and Clean Seas is the coastal and marine component of the Natural Heritage Trust. Through Coasts and Clean Seas the Federal Government provides funds to tackle Australia's coastal and marine environmental problems, now and into the future.

The Department of Primary Industries, Water and Environment (DPIWE), drives sustainable development in Tasmania (Australia) through a central role in industry development, natural resource management, environmental protection and the conservation of our natural and cultural heritage.

DPIWE is the government agency responsible for undertaking the Giant Kelp Project and 'KelpWatch'.

The Tasmanian Fisheries and Aquaculture Institute (TAFI) is a centre of excellence in applied marine research, and supports the development and sustainable management of Tasmania's living marine resources. TAFI, in partnership with DPIWE, is undertaking the Giant Kelp Project.

Other supporters of 'KelpWatch' include:

The Australian Hydrographic Service (AHS) is part of the Royal Australian Navy and provides Australia's national charting service, including publishing and maintaining the national chart series (nearly 400 navigational charts). The AHS has supplied 'KelpWatch' with historical British Admiralty charts and recent Hydrographic Service (RAN) charts.

The National Information and Mapping Agency (NIMA) of the US Department of Defence provides accurate imagery, imagery intelligence, and geospatial information in support of national security objectives. NIMA has supplied 'KelpWatch' with historical charts published by the US Hydrographic Office.
