General Marine Education Resources

  • Marine and Environmental Education and Research (MEER) - an excellent educational resource for marine students and researchers; includes topics on seas and oceans, marine organisms, wildlife conservation, coral reef maps, history of marine biology and oceanography, reference lists and virtual field trips.
  • MB Web (Marine Biology Web) - educational resource for marine biology students that includes reference lists organised by subject, links to marine stations in the USA, accounts of new and exciting research, and color photographs illustrating principles of marine biology and ecology.
  • BiologyBase - a comprehensive list of links on oceanography and marine biology, fish resources, and aquatic resources.
  • Phil Levin's Marine Ecological Resources - a comprehensive website containing information on marine journals, research institutes, publications, jobs, marine links. This page is maintained by Phil Levin at the University of California, Santa Cruz. "It was originally created in 1996 as a teaching tool, but has since gotten out of control!"
  • MB Ref (Marine Biology References) - a reference source for marine biology research, includes reference lists organised by subject.
  • International Year of the Ocean 1998 (ABC) - an excellent educational site (K-12) to celebrate the International Year of the Ocean.
  • Marine Education Society of Australia (MESA) - an guide to marine educational resources within Australia.
  • Ocean Planet (Smithsonian Institution) - an on-line companion to the travelling exhibition, Ocean Planet, which premiered at the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of Natural History, from April 1995 to April 1996 - where it attracted nearly 2 million visitors.
  • SeaWeb - SeaWeb is a multimedia public education project designed to raise awareness of the world ocean and the life within it. Provides comprehensive information and opinion from a broad spectrum of sources.
  • Australian Museum Fact Sheets - fact sheets, covering a wide range of topics.
  • Coasting on the Web (National Museum of Australia) - an on-line educational program by the National Museum of Australia to celebrate the International Year of the Ocean.
